Replace layer keeping effects and properties

Did you know that you can swap the layer but keep keyframes, effects, and properties?
Select a layer you want to replace and select a project item.
Hold ALT and drag an item to the timeline.

Pro tip: Ctrl+Alt+/ (Cmd + Opt + /) to replace layers without dragging
