Introduction
Animating grass to look like it’s swaying in the wind is easy using CC Slant and a subtle wiggle expression. This technique works with any grass footage and can be combined with keying if your footage has a solid background.
Step 1: Import Your Grass Footage
Go to File > Import > File and choose your grass footage.
Step 2: Create a New Composition
Create a New Composition, then drag your grass footage onto the timeline.
Step 3: Fit the Grass Footage to the Composition
Right-click the grass layer and select:
Transform > Fit to Comp
This adjusts your footage to fill the composition.

Step 4: (Optional) Remove the Background Using Linear Color Key
If your grass footage has a solid background:
Apply Linear Color Key from the Effects & Presets panel.
Use the eyedropper to select the background color.
Adjust settings until the background is fully removed.
Step 5: Apply the CC Slant Effect
Search CC Slant in the Effects & Presets panel and apply it to your grass layer.
Positive Slant value = leans to the right
Negative Slant value = leans to the left
Make sure the Floor parameter is positioned correctly so the grass tilts from the base of the footage.

Step 6: Add Swaying Movement With an Expression
To create seamless, soft wind movement:
Alt/Option-click the Slant stopwatch.
Type this expression: wiggle(.8, 10)
This creates a slow, natural swaying motion.
Step 7: Preview and Refine
Press Spacebar to preview the movement. Adjust wiggle values or CC Slant settings to make the wind stronger, softer, or more stylized.
Conclusion
With CC Slant and a simple wiggle expression, you can quickly create natural grass-blowing animation in After Effects. This method is perfect for nature scenes, motion graphics, and background animations.
